Remembering Life Member and former GMVRS Chief Chuck Poppe
It is with deep sadness that we report that Life Member and former GMVRS Chief for many years, Chuck Poppe, passed away unexpectedly in his home. He was 56. Chuck is survived by his wife, Lindsey, their adult son, Craig, daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren.
Chuck, GMVRS Member #32, was “into everything” at the Squad while he was an active member, by one account from someone who knew him well. His training records testify to that as he held many certifications including Firefighter I & II, EMT-Cardiac and Shock Trauma Technician, Vehicle Rescue and Extrication Instructor, Trench Rescue, Hazmat Technician, Farmedic Instructor, and various scuba diver certifications. For two consecutive years, in 1994-95, while Chuck was Chief, the GMVRS was recognized by the VAVRS as Virginia’s Rescue Squad of the Year.
We remember and are thankful for Chuck Poppe’s many years of loyal service and leadership of the GMVRS, and express our collective condolences to his family as they experience this loss.
