Since the COVID-19 pandemic started, the Greater Manassas Volunteer Rescue Squad (GMVRS) at Fire Station 521 has stepped up to work with the American Red Cross to double the number of blood drives it hosts. GMVRS-hosted blood drives now take place on a monthly basis in Hutton Hall at the Station located at 9322 Center Street, Manassas. In addition, the Squad has opened the Hall to permit a local church who is not able to host a blood drive in their facility use of the Hall for their drives during the pandemic.
During its most recent drive on September 17, 2020, 50 productive units were collected from local citizens and Squad members. According to a message received from Steven Bratland, Biomedical Services Account Manager for the ARC, the blood collected “could potentially save up to150 lives: Simply amazing, thank you so much!
