Passing of Richard “Pop” Orndoff
Richard (Pop) Orndoff
It is with both sadness and a sense of deep respect that we share with you the news that Richard Orndoff, died peacefully early on February 16, 2023, at UVA Prince William Medical Center in Manassas. He was 95, and a Life Member of the Squad who served in many positions during his 50 years as a member.
Known by many as either “Rick” or “Pop”, Richard joined the Greater Manassas Volunteer Rescue Squad in 1973. Over his many years, Pop served as the Squad’s President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Chaplain at different times. For the members of the Squad he was a mentor and was always willing to share his knowledge with the younger generations. Many of those he mentored have gone on to become respected emergency medical service providers in the area. Richard’s life was always one of service to others and he made a difference to many.
Richard was predeceased by his beloved wife, Shirley, and survived by his three children. Daughters Eddie Ann Orndoff (current President of the AVAVRS) and Nancy Lynn Orndoff (current CRO of the GMVRS) and son Gary Orndoff (current Chief, MVFC).
We’ll miss “Pop” Orndoff at the Squad, but take comfort in knowing that his legacy will live on in the lives he touched while he was with us!
